Jack is cuckoo for popsicles these days, and can convince mommy to give him four in a row by saying "mo gockicko! mo gockicko!" in the sweetest little voice ever. I've been feeling guilty about giving him so much sugar and whatever else is in those things, not to mention the waste caused by the individual plastic wrappers on each one.
So I decided to try making my own popsicles as green change #6. I poured juice into some popsicle molds that Glen and Jo already had, and froze them for about a day. Less waste, a good dose of vitamins, and no artificial sugar or chemicals. Of course, I don't want to overdo even the natural sugars in juice, so I may try diluting the next batch with water.
Jack seems just as happy with his new healthier treats.
The rest of my household hasn't caught the green bug to quite the extent that I have; they'll recycle if they happen to be in the kitchen, but if they're in the office or upstairs, newspapers and other recyclables seem to find their way to the trash. For green change #7 I've become the resident garbage police. While I was getting the recycling ready for tomorrow's pick-up, I went around to all of the garbages in our house and recycled the newspapers, empty tissue rolls, and other items that would have headed to the trash if I hadn't intercepted them.

hey hon--just want to say that i know that i've been putting the newspapers & other recyclables in the upstairs waste baskets--but only b/c we don't have recycle bins upstairs (that's going to be the next green thing we do, i bet!) if i'm the one emptying out the upstairs waste baskets, i too will take those recyclables out of the waste baskets & put them in the recycling bin

Oh and hey, here's another green thing that seems fairly easy and cheap to implement - cutting back on phantom power draining. (I'm still working on it...)
