About Missy and This Site
Me: Missy. Easy-on-the-eyes hubby: Glen. Delightful kiddies: son Jack and stepdaughter Jo.
We live in Fairfield, Iowa, which happens to be home to Maharishi University of Management, and consequently has more coffee shops, yoga studios, and giant golden meditation domes than your average Midwestern small town. Our house, a big ol’ fixer-upper Victorian, is a five-minute stroller ride from Fairfield’s town square.
After meeting Glen in 2004, in no time at all I moved from Des Moines to join him in Fairfield, and we got hitched and had Jack. I’ve been a web content manager for years for a Des Moines company that has always been good to me. I make the four-hour round trip from Fairfield to my Des Moines office once a week, telecommute three days a week while Jack goes to daycare, and then get a three-day weekend with him every week. I also occasionally moonlight as a freelance writer and editor. The situation isn’t perfect, and there are always sacrifices to be made, but for a working mom I have a pretty good setup that allows me a career, some creative pursuits, and plenty of time with family.
This blog explores my journey as I do my best to create a happy, positive, balanced life that maintains a sense of humor and perspective, supports my family, and gives me purpose and meaning. I share stories about the little joys (and frustrations) of daily life and my adventures as a spiritual seeker, focusing on topics that interest me like parenting, love, yoga, gratitude, and whatever seems to fit on any given day.
If you’re looking for the secret to bringing the perfect adho mukha svanasana to your yoga practice, you’ll find that on another site. If you’re interested in the personal insights this imperfect soul discovers while doing her very imperfect downward dog (or standing in line at the grocery store, or watching Sesame Street with her son), you’ve come to the right place.
